The history of improvised music is full of successful and even magical first encounters, but more common are the occasions in which the musicians don’t have the hability, or the possibility, to find bridges of compatibility among themselves. Even when we’re in presence of great players, it simply doesn’t work.

No! With its reinterpretations of the music composed by Thelonious Monk, "Sharp? Monk? Sharp! Monk!" wasn't the most "jazzy" recording that multi-instrumentalist Elliott Sharp could conceive. In "Aggregat" we find him (in a way similar to his soundtrack to the film "Spectropia") using this musical language as if he always did it in such an integral and authentic way.

This is a very special work for all Portuguese jazz fans, not only because of historical reasons, but also emotional ones. At the end of the dictatorship, “Estilhaços” had the emblematic power to represent freedom in music: it was recorded live during a Lisbon concert in the beginning of 1972 (the revolution happened two years later, in 1974), being the first jazz record released in Portugal.

This is music about, and coming from, Brooklyn, known for its large community of musicians. Particularly, about a period of local history which coincides with the history of jazz, going from the Fourties to the Sixties. Brooklyn jazz was frequently ofuscated by all the activity happening on the other side of the river, but its own dynamics was – and still is – very special.

The third recording from this group of long-time collaborators, with Golia on soprano, alto and tenor sax, Bobby Bradford on cornet, Ken Filiano on bass and Alex Cline on drums in a set of Golia original compositions.
