Dave Rempis, Fred Lonberg-Holm and Paal Nilssen-Love present their association as a“free-wheeling trio” and that means everything. It means, for instance, aspecial attention to the process of music making, and this one deals with improvisation – jazz-flavored, for sure, but free in its creative resources.

This is music about, and coming from, Brooklyn, known for its large community of musicians. Particularly, about a period of local history which coincides with the history of jazz, going from the Fourties to the Sixties. Brooklyn jazz was frequently ofuscated by all the activity happening on the other side of the river, but its own dynamics was – and still is – very special.

Recorded live in Lisbon, at the 2011 edition of the festival Jazz em Agosto, “Snakelust” is the most fantastic upbringing, to this date, of the newest Peter Brotzmann’s electric project, Hairy Bones.

No, Martin Küchen isn’t a composer of programmatic music, conceived only to accompany silent movies, dancers or stage actors, but even if this wonderful Swedish saxophonist also had made music for theatre, dance and cinema, his main work in the fields of jazz and free improvised music has as a personal characteristic the particularity of telling stories.

This 1996 Scott Fields Ensemble session marked a time of transition for all four musicians. The leader had resumed performing a few years earlier after disappearing for more than a decade. This recording marked one of his first collaborations with musicians from outside of Madison, Wisconsin, where he had moved after leaving Chicago.
