Elliott Sharp

Octal: Book One
Elliott Sharp

“Octal: Book One” is Sharp’s second solo recording for Clean Feed. The first was his all-acoustic take on Thelonious Monk. This time around, however, he tackles his own compositions and plays them on a custom-made electroacoustic “guitarbass,” which is a hollow-bodied electric guitar with two extra bass strings.

Sharp? Monk? Sharp! Monk!
Elliott Sharp

For many, it’s quite a surprise to listen to Elliott Sharp performing Thelonious Monk’s tunes.

Octal: Book Two
Elliott Sharp

This is the second volume of Elliott Sharp's project "Octal", realized on the 8-string guitarbass prototype built for him by Saul Koll. And again, it's a solo album of purely digital music "in that my digits are the sole method of sound-production: no plectra are used, only fingers", as we read in the liner notes written by the notorious New York composer, conceptualist, and musician.

Aggregat
Elliott Sharp

No! With its reinterpretations of the music composed by Thelonious Monk, "Sharp? Monk? Sharp! Monk!" wasn't the most "jazzy" recording that multi-instrumentalist Elliott Sharp could conceive. In "Aggregat" we find him (in a way similar to his soundtrack to the film "Spectropia") using this musical language as if he always did it in such an integral and authentic way.
